I have just returned from the Australian Cartoonists' Association's Premier Event for the Year - the 2011 Stanley Awards, held last night (November 12th) at the Mercure Sydney . For those unable to attend and for posterity, here are a list of the winners of the Awards:
Bronze Stanleys:

Comic Strip Cartoonist: Tony Lopes
Single Gag Cartoonist: Andrew Weldon
Caricaturist: David Rowe
Editorial/Political Cartoonist: David Pope
Comic Book Artists: David Follett
Other Awards given on the night included:
The Australian Cartoonists Hall of Fame: May Gibbs
Outstanding Contribution to Australian Cartooning: Rolf Heimann
Best Cartoon on the Night: Nat Karmichael *
Gold Stanley:
Cartoonist of the Year: Anton Emdin
*I don't include this here with the thought of being boastful. It was an absolute shock (and honour!) to have won this Award on the night and join others who have won this Award in the past.... And that includes James Kemsley (1985), Gary Clark (1997), Gerard Piper (2000), as well as some of last night's winners: Tony Lopes in 2001 and David Follett in 2005. Maybe I should be grateful Neil Matterson wasn't able to attend....! Neil has won Best Cartoon on the Night four times in the past: 1988, 1990, 1999 and 2009 - at least once every decade!
Anyway, just so you don't think I am blowing my own tune, my next Blog posting will be detailing the events of the Conference that was held during the days of Friday and Saturday; and especially those that I think are of pertinence to Comicoz...
